Democracy Heroes: Substack & Bluesky
Open communication is a critical part of the pursuit of truth
Of course, the heroes of these organizations are more than just the CEOs, but I couldn’t fit everyone’s photos onto this screen, so please know I appreciate all of you at these organizations.
And also, as Chris Cillizza reminds us, “Substack can't become part of the “Resistance,” because it’s much more than just politics. However, I am part of the resistance and Substack and Bluesky give me … and people who disagree with me … a place to share our voices without having to pay billions to be heard or be a target of toxic rage.
That is pretty foundational to democracy … we need to hear all voices or we’re just talking to ourselves.
He also quotes this from
:“There’s a desperate need for a quality platform with trusted voices, where honest-to-God political discussion, debate, disagreement can happen without it either disappearing into the ether or taking place on a platform where there’s constant knife fights and flame wars.”
I recommend reading all of Chris’s post; I consider it something of a manual on how to write during this passion-enflamed time.
With that said, I believe Substack and Bluesky give truth a chance to prevail and for that they are Democracy Heroes
