The above is taken from the flipbook of Beauty and Inspiration available one daily post at a time on Substack Notes. I’m delighted to start June with the beauty and inspiration of Paul Klee
Thanks to all of you who generously support and share this work. And, I always love hearing from you.
Artist, color theorist, teacher, and philosopher, Paul Klee offers us a fascinating peek inside the creative mind of a giant influencer of the art and thinking of our time.
With almost 10,000 paintings and a wide range of styles and schools to choose from, curating Klee’s paintings down to 30 was an engaging challenge. Almost as challenging was selecting his philosophical and art-oriented quotes to accompany the paintings each day.
I hope you enjoy this overview of his work as much as I did making it. As usual, there will be one image and quote published on Substack Notes each day during the month of June. Paid subscribers will also receive a copy of the complete flipbook for their own use and to share with others.

Early in his life, Klee had to decide which art to follow. He was a talented violinist and his parents encouraged that path. He obviously chose to focus his energy on art and set about studying and understanding painting, especially color. Later, he taught at Bauhaus for ten years. His style crosses many lines but one comment that I thought was telling was that even when a work didn’t fit a specific school, it was always clearly a “Klee” that couldn’t have been painted by anyone else.
Wishing you a month of delights.
