Let your imagination drift backwards for a moment … to that instant when your spirit is about to join your body for a human incarnation. Your guide says to you:
“It will take you a long time to remember these words I’m about to give you, but when you do, your entire life will make sense. To help you remember them, other people … friends, family, and total strangers … will give you clues along the way. Listen well.”
This little scene came to me after a friend told me her story and I imagined her guide saying to her: Don’t just read the stories of others … share your own stories, whether true or imagined.
This made me curious about what the guide’s words might be for other friends. For one friend, I imagined: You will be a candle glowing in a darkened room. Stay bright even when the world makes you flicker.
The words for another friend came out as: You will not have to be superwoman; just sharing your wisdom will make others strong.
Another’s words were: The hurts that will be given to you will strengthen you and help you pass them on as love and tenderness.
That message also echoed for a different friend: Your path will twist and turn as you gradually find your way into your own heart.
I was softened by the words for a lost friend: You will carry a gift of beauty and love and grow peaceful as you share it with others.
I wondered what to call these messages … life koans? Marching orders? Fortune cookies? Spirit tweets? Soul notes? I decided that soul notes carried the meaning of this imagined event: a note folded and tucked deep into our spirits and revealed slowly during our journey, guiding us if we listen, or not if we leave it unheeded.
It made me wonder what my soul note might have been and, after some quiet time, this emerged:
Perfection is not an option. Let connection and love flow freely through your imperfect places.
I’m going to ponder on this and would love to hear your thoughts on “soul notes.” I can imagine that many of us might receive similar notes, so if any of the above fit, feel free to borrow, revise, or change in whatever way might suit you.
