I am so happy to have you join us in this unique community of writers as either a reader, writer, or both. Gratitude changed my life and I blogged about gratitude and my journey for fourteen years before I joined the Substack community. While I was delighted to have the blog to share my writings, I never felt the sense of community I was looking for and found here.
Substack is unique. It invites both writers and readers into a generous and sharing community that is unlike anything I’ve experienced before.
Remember Jack Nicholson’s compliment to Helen Hunt in As Good as It Gets?
(Just in case you never got to see it or would just love to see it again, here’s that magical scene:
Anyway, Substack makes me want to be a better and more generous writer … and person. The writers here lift me up and expand my spirit. You will be introduced to many of them along our journey. Some of them you might meet in book stores or popular podcasts. Others are simply brilliant people who walk among us … wisdom sharers you might never meet otherwise.
When I joined Substack, my focus was gratitude, which, like oxygen, is a fundamental of life. However, the more I got to know Substack and meet the writers here, the more I recognized a piece of my background that could be helpful to writers now becoming entrepreneurial writers under the umbrella of Substack.
I am grateful for my entrepreneurial streak, which showed up in childhood as a maker and seller of potholders and later as the founder of a conference/consultancy around business creativity and innovation in the 1990s. Now it rises again as the need to bypass the restrictive world of traditional publishing chokes the voices of millions of people who have stories to tell and wisdom to share.
We need diversity of voices now more than ever and I am grateful to be able to add Field Guide to Substack to gratitude mojo on the substack journey in order to help more people raise their voices and be paid by the readers who benefit from their wisdom.
Gratitude letters will show up in your inbox on Saturdays, while letters helpful to writers on Substack will show up on Wednesdays.
We love to hear your ideas, suggestions and questions … please start a conversation. One of the wonders of Substack is how readers talk to writers, writers talk to readers, and readers talk to each other … with respect. Maybe Twitter and the other social media were like that in the old days … I don’t remember. However, I do know that I enjoying discussions here, even when we come from different points of view and backgrounds … maybe especially then.
In the meantime …
I am officially opening a new E-File to receive and use all the great ideas and learning I will get from your sessions and our group! 🎁
