I am heartened to see your post stimulated good exchanges. You are bearing the burnt of anxiety by following the news so closely, however, I

it takes a toll on your passion & skills. How will you feed your creative, appreciative energy and strengthen yourself and others for life's journey? How? When?

Always a good and important question. This could go on for a long time so we do have to create balance.

We are out of time for "How did this happen?" or finger-pointing. It's time to decide if you will grab a bucket or be the one starting more fires.

Heather Cox Richardson put the solution in front of everyone's face. You can't miss it or turn away. People still alive and in their 80's will tell you everything we have today, including world peace relationships with other countries, was BUILT up from destruction and deaths amassed by 1945. In a few horrific months since the inauguration (January 2025) Trump and people carrying out his orders have torn apart, shut down, or tried to eliminate all that Americans built.

Heather wrote: "It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic. All I’m saying is when the five-alarm fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.”

I recognize the truth in what you’re saying … I just haven’t gotten there yet. ;-)

I have no control over how this will all shake out … but I don’t want to get to the end thinking I should have done more. I worry about people whose lives depend on help from others. I worry about kids in school and whether or not they will get a chance for a decent education. I worry about the young people I see on campus every day and wonder if they’ll get a chance to live a decent life. I worry about our planet which is running out of patience with us.

None of those worries accomplish a damn thing so I keep doing what I can to feel like I’m doing something.

All good statements, Joyce, I think this one, "accepting lying as a form of free speech," has really let us down. I blame the media for lack of calling a spade a spade so early on. They're still using coddled phrases - even now - to describe his atrocities. I guess some of it's fear factor. Coming after CBS w/ $20billion lawsuit, that probably marches a lot of news orgs in line. Today did show some heartening facts. Time will tell, as always. But I think in seeing the statements of those who have 'buyers' remorse' post ballot pull, his lies were believed. Remarks voters/senators from AL, GA, ME, AK asking for 'exemptions' from his chainsaw to NIH, CDC, federal jobs. . .and requests from Collins and Murkowski to have the nerve to ask for them stating he couldn't have meant THEM, after their voting record for his outlandish cabinet picks.

Thanks, Jeanine. This is a trial and we don’t know how it will turn out … but the push-back is beginning. May we all stay strong and make this experiment in democracy live up to its ideals.

Yes, the pushback is beginning, Joyce. I was heartened today by the 2 fed responses and (gasp) even SC baby steps. I wonder if they've yet figured out that if they allow the beast to continue to absorb all the oxygen in the room, they, too, will be on the chopping block? I mean, who needs 9 magistrates to tell him what to do when he already knows all?
