Thanks for the reminder. I've never used the email header feature. I meant to take a look at, experiment a bit, but I forgot.
I'm a bit of two minds about this. Sometimes I receive or see a post and I have a hard time telling where the actual article begins because of the lead-in and the lead-in to the lead-in. In fiction at least, I like it to just plain start. That's been my M.O. since I started on Substack and I'd like to keep it that way on the web site portion, but I was wondering about the email aspect. I'll check it out next time.
Victor ... thanks for your note ... I'm still making up my mind. I think it's important real estate but can be distracting ... and is often too long ... it needs to enhance the message. Plus, it only shows up on emails ... not the websites. I think it's a great reminder space ... for who you are and what the newsletter is about. How to use it with fiction isn't something I've thought about. Let's keep thinking.
Maddie ... I love that graphic and your Substack. Having never been much of a 5-year planner, I surprised myself in my mid-70s by making one. And now, you're inspiring me to renew it. Thanks!
That’s so kind of you to say! I’ll be rooting for you 🤗 Similarly, I love the spirit of gratitude that infuses your work...if there’s any secret to The Good Life, that’s it.
Actually, I'm starting to find them challenging ... I'd like to change with every post, but when scheduling ahead, it starts to get challenging to match header with post. Now, I'm thinking about a generic header that changes maybe once a month ... or even at the beginning of the week. There are so many moving parts here.
Yes! I believe that a mindset of experimentation is ideal ... "back to the drawing board" may be my life metaphor so when I found that image, it just grabbed me. ;-)
This is so helpful for a new Substack user. Thanks!
Welcome to Substack and glad you found that useful. I’ve been here 3 years now and think it is a grand learning field. Enjoy!

Joyce, this was a very useful roundup, and it was a fun surprise to see my newsletter graphic towards the end! Thanks for this deep-dive. ✨
