Well, this is true. i was. for hours. for days... but that isn't exactly a respite from these cold and heartless modern times we're in, is it? I will try again.
Love this invitation. Natalie Goldberg’s haiku book is a favorite of mine and I love creating haiku. Here’s mine today that I’m sending to my niece for her bday -
A small bundle of stems
Colors of joy
Your reflection
And from the June 1 written after work frustrations -
me too! LOL. I'm glad you don't mind humorous haikus. Issa was my favorite of all the Japanese haiku writers. This is my favorite, but there are so many good ones:
This haiku idea is giving us moments of sanity and recharge - and mini respite from all the insanity going on. Thank you, Joyce. Brilliant idea for this month. <3
Thank you Joyce! I may not write Haiku, but I will take your lead in turning away toward hope each day for at least a few moments!!! Thank you for the reminder. And I"ll be enjoying following along!
I'm in! Perfect for the insanely busy, growing, fast paced month of June - especially for gardeners. But where do i find your Notes? And do we leave comments there? I likely will forget a bunch, if so. Thanks for this lovely respite from the madness of politricks. LIFE is happening all around us northern hemisphere folks! Thanks!
Joyce, we met once years ago with Dolores Forsyth. I continue to be absolutely amazed at your creativity, your ability to hold massive and diverse amounts of information in your head and reach an essential essence of "story" and meaning. I'm grateful to be receiving these posts.
June 6 - behind!

Two tiger swallowtails
in the garden!

Beautiful tyrants -
One hundred dahlia tubers
sprouted in trays
Northern Cascades Haiku:
Mountains soar above.
Evergreens forever more.
My spirit is fed.
Thanks, Becky, for your calming words which arrived not a moment too soon.
Joyce, Mother Nature is about all that is calming these days. And the love of dear friends, of course. 💕
June 5
Hush, white-crowned sparrows!
Don't announce to the black cat
where your nestlings are!
june 4 -
Phone call with chatbot
On-hold muzak for an hour -
Modern 'service.' ARRRGGGGH!
Well, this is true. i was. for hours. for days... but that isn't exactly a respite from these cold and heartless modern times we're in, is it? I will try again.
Male Steller's Jay

Happy haiku-ing!
yes! going outside or raising eyes to Nature's beauty keeps us sane in these times.
Thanks for playing and bringing beauty to tech frustrations.
More birthday wishes:
may colorful flowers shine
for beloved niece
Almost 1 a.m.;
the moon is asleep.
Even the frogs are quiet.

How can this flower
look so lovely, yet smell like
a boys' locker room?
Thanks for the laugh! I’ve smelled that flower.

Thanks, Sue. Like many of us, I’m feeling out of balance and looking forward to a little more time with Hope and Beauty.

Well said, Jan. I feel so fortunate to have been led to this substack, and Joyce!
Jan ... thank you so much for such a lovely note! I remember those days fondly.

It is the Highest teaching
From the muck we bloom."

I’ll be holding that question too.
Thanks, Paulette and yours makes me wonder what will bloom when the muck of this administration is gone.
Robins awaken the sun
Singing joy always
Gray clouds or blue skies
Thanks, Meg … love it! And thanks for restacking.
I love that you're doing this. Haiku to follow. ❤️
What a wonderful challenge Joyce. I'll try to take part as many times as possible: based on your image, here's my Haiku for today:
"They rise upwards
like trees, freely trying to
reach or touch the sky"

Rolando … how fun to have to you along and what an image. I feel better already.
