Thank you for this.

I have been struggling to catch up with the reality of my 60th birthday which is very soon and trying so hard not to think about the fewer years remaining than the ones behind me.

The opportunities and value of older women is something our developed societies have scarcely begun to explore or appreciate and it's so good that spaces such as this, and writers such as yourself, are bringing it to the fore.

I am glad you didn't go to Mexico: it surely means a lot more time for writing, and we shall get more of your thoughts here.

Thank you, Kathy ... and what a lovely perspective on not going to Mexico. BTW ... my 60s were when creativity blossomed for me ... may many new things open for you, also.

There's a lot of wisdom here for someone who's just entering the golden years. You've particularly caught my attention with " you were blessed with a good, long life. Don’t become a grump at the end! And, leave this with someone who can read it to you in case you can’t."

You're one creative lady who I'm confident will keep producing good things until you can't.

Hello my dear friend, thank you so much for this piece to ponder on. The one point that rather gob smacked me was making peace and coming to the realization that some things are done for the last time. Whew, why is that one so difficult? It made me cry even though I too have had a wonderful full life. In the meantime, I will continue to do what I can although sometimes with a different approach.

Knowingly doing anything for the last time certainly garners some reflection but hopefully also gratitude that we ever got to do that thing in the first place.

We probably seldom know that it is the last time, so I think, as you say, we need to be knowingly thankful for getting to do it at all.

Neila ... thank you. None of this is easy.

That's your best article, ever, Joyce. That's saying a lot to someone who produces one winner after the next. Talking to the older self seems real because we might do something with that great advice. Talking to our younger self seems silly, unless it is overhead by someone who has not yet gone as long and as far as you.

Georgia ... thank you so much, your comment made my day. I've decided that I have to review that advice to myself periodically and I agree that talking to my older self could be more effective than trying to back date info to the younger me, who wouldn't be listening anyway. ;-)

I believe that you have struck on something very edifying for millions: Letter to Your Older Self & The Dandelion Drifts poem.

😉 (Dare I encourage you to submit this more broadly?)

So very true, do the pros and cons of any action and if the balance is right, still go for it - you're only this young once!
