Love Letter to the World #1: What if this isn't about being more "efficient?"
What if the intent is to remake the world in Musk's image?
We know the day we were born, but most of us do not know the day we will die. In an effort to understand death and my own impermanence, a few years ago I began writing monthly love letters to my life. This post was going to be #80 in that series.
However, the rise of insanity in what has been considered the most powerful office in the world has made me rethink this sweet, although self-referential, ritual.
It’s now time to broaden my scope.
I know not how many months lie ahead of me; however, I do know that I have been given the time and opportunity to write this first Love Letter to the World. I can see the path ahead of me dimming; there is no longer an advantage to my saving for a rainy day or playing it safe … the creek has already risen, everything is in danger.
We humans are a fascinating and powerful bunch. Too weak to live alone, we act as if we have the power of gods. Hubris, ignorance, and greed are traits dangerous to our own well-being and the health of the planet we live on, the only planet we can live on.
In a bountiful world that could feed all of us, we have facilitated the rise of men of such great greed that they want all the toys, all the wealth and power, and apparently intend to outsmart death and take their hoard with them to some other, better world, leaving a wrecked planet behind them for the rest of us to deal with.
We’ve allowed this to happen. Mesmerized by the shimmer of gold and power radiating from weak and damaged men, we gave Trump the office he wanted (mainly in order to stay out of jail) who sold the keys to his money-may because he had a tee time waiting.
I often hear women who’ve chosen the wrong life partner, sometimes more than once, say that their “picker was bad.” Perhaps that’s what’s happened to many of us. Wanting someone who would make us feel safe in a changing world, we listened to a lying, cheating mortal man and believed that we were his chosen ones, and that he cared about us. We thought he was strong enough to ward off the demons who come in the night. As we’re now finding out the hard way, he is the demon who comes in both day and night and, this time, he has brought his posse.
Because neither Trump nor his posse respects the Constitution, he is also talking about a third term as this 2/14/2025 Time article reports: Donald Trump Keeps Teasing a Third Term. Here’s What to Know:
Plus, you may remember when he indicated that people might not have to vote again.
2024 July 27 (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told Christians on Friday that if they vote for him this November, "in four years, you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good, you're not gonna have to vote."
In four weeks, this administration has fixed things so good that the people who have been making our systems work are being tossed away like trash, losing not only the jobs they’ve worked hard at but also their health care and the well-being of their families. In one fell swoop, Trump’s posse has broken our trust with the world and we are probably less safe internationally than ever before in our history.
There are strange stories emerging about the Billionaire and his BroBoys trying to remake our world by turning our systems over to AI in a way that lets them control the movements of money and power. This short video from Robert Reich explains more about why all of this is happening: What Does Elon Musk Really Want?
“Nearly two-thirds of all active satellites now orbiting the earth controlled by Musk.”
We put our elections up for sale with Citizens United, the landmark decision of the Supreme Court.
It’s Trump’s second election … however …
Robert Reich: “As we plan to fight this administration for the next four years, it’s crucial to know where the power really lies.”
If you can only listen to one voice, my suggestion would be Robert Reich. He has been working in and observing government since Gerald Ford days. He presents his deep understanding in simple, understandable terms and graphics.
He is one of my heroes and, if we come through this present crisis as a representative democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people, his voice will have helped us get there.

Post opening …
"Friends, Before I post my Sunday cartoon, I want to share with you some thoughts about the hellish fourth week of Trump II. Trump increasingly resembles a monster — a creature that’s extremely powerful and dangerous and is inflicting extraordinary harm on human beings. Elon Musk is also behaving like a monster. JD Vance is a baby monster in waiting.”
We are being tested. Take care of yourself and those around you. Stay informed and speak up. Find beauty to renew your spirit. And, remember, the next generation is depending on us.
Always good to read you. We are so resonant with one another, and you write so well.
I passed along a wonderful Musk expose:

What can give you a thrill when you are the richest person in the world? Maybe to take it over.
The intent was provided, in writing, in advance of the elections. The intent is a dictatorship and complete elimination of democracy, the Constitution, and everything you think is yours. Your freedom, your money, your job, your vote, your future--all of whatever Trump thinks is in his way--he will crush it. The intent is to sell America to the highest bidder and all funds go into Trump's pockets. When voters put him back in office, he believes he has the support to do whatever the hell he wants to do. What is more concerning than Trump are all of the voters who said this is what they want for themselves and for all who did not vote for Trump. Musk is carrying out the dirty work. Nobody elected Musk.
