Such powerful writing Joyce, a reminder of the need to keep working for justice regardless of how tired and comfortable we are where we set. Thank you for waking us up again.
continued reading says they may not have stood by and watched. Border agents were not allowed to enter a park that had been seized by the state ... so they couldn't go to the river where a distress signal had been given. I'm sure there will be more to the story. I can't imagine watching someone drown if I was able to help them, did that really happen, I have no idea but it wouldn't be good if it did

upon hearing more of the story ...
perhaps no one watched
it was just a radio call about distress
people without faces,
a macho dispute over territory
seized by a power deprived man
blind to lives on the other side,
deaf to the cries of the powerless.
not me,
not my job,
just following orders,
this way to the trains.
