Today I learned the abbreviation “TIL.” I may be a bit slow, however, I learned it from a cool source: Laura Helmuth, Editor-in-Chief of Scientific American, who said, “One of my favorite abbreviations is “TIL” for “today I learned.” Whenever someone starts a social media post or short video with TIL, you know they’re going to share something that tickled them and that they think would tickle you.”
So, TIL …”that waiting to clip the umbilical cord of premature babies dramatically improved survival.”
And, a bunch of stuff that astronomers are finding out about our Milky Way.
But, most of all, TIL that 4000 years ago, we measured the movement of the stars by holding “up fingers to measure the daily distances between the Normal stars and the moon, sun and planets.”
Somehow, it makes me feel better to know that I’m only 4,000 years behind today’s scientists. Make a note of that, all you time travel authors.
The whole article is worth reading here.
PS … since I actually learned this yesterday, do I need to use YIL in order to be factual?
TIL TIL!
TIL prehistoric astronomy that makes perfect sense. Now, where'd I put that time machine?
