I'm catching up on unread emails and I was surprised to see that no one had done that joke already! hehe.

I learn stuff most days by reading and watching and listening but most of what I learn I forget to file away for latter use and then it gets lost, so annoying

FINALLY, there's an acknowledgement of that which I've struggled with for years! So often I have passed on to innocent bystanders my TIL and so many emanate, but why are you randomly telling me. Because they're major fascinomas that I think everyone should know! Silly me.

Like cutting the umbilical cord immediately after birth certainly doesn't make intuitive sense, now that I think of it. The newborn is getting the biggest signal in his or her life that things aren't normal "out here." All kinds of catecholamines and blood components are trying to equilibrate with the new unknown environment. How about if we let the dust settle for a few minutes when we can. I love science and the fact that new discoveries are happening every day - sometimes they're just rediscoveries with research backing. Thanks for the great post and validating I'm not alone with the TIL's

Thanks, Mark ... Things like that ... new and a bit counterintuitive ... definitely tickle my mind.

TIL how good my grandfather's measurement methods were. I learned how much I miss if I keep up with Joyce's posts. Thanks friend. Glad we have this place to meet!

Simple stuff like using your finger to measure distance in the sky - these sorts of examples make it really easy for us to put ourselves in the place of someone who lived long ago. Well done!
