Trump/Vance and Project 2025 are not just another political operation
On the Hitler time line, they are shooting for 1933 -- only VOTING can stop them.
On February 20, 1939, a crowd of 20,000 attending a pro-Nazi, American Christian Nationalist rally in Madison Square Garden cheered loudly after hearing a speaker lead the Pledge of Allegiance promising liberty and justice for all, and even louder when the next speaker listed the first point in the charter for a “white, Gentile ruled United States,” and loudest of all for the next point calling for “Gentile controlled labor unions free from Jewish Moscow-directed domination.”
Trump likes dictators, wishes his generals were more like Hitler’s, and sees no problem using the military to deal with his enemies. He started visiting the Soviet Union in the 1980s, claiming he could end the cold war in an hour.
I tend to be a practical optimist. The optimist part is seeing an amazing explosion of energy and excitement for Harris/Walz. The practical part wonders if I’m drowning in my own cognitive bias which holds onto the beliefs that people are good and that US citizens believe in the fundamentals of democracy.
Polls should be spiking blue upward, however they seem stuck in WhoKnows?
Thankfully, Michael Moore says, “Nothing could be further from the truth.”
Michael Moore devastated me in 2016 when he predicted Trump’s win. Read more here about why he’s going against the polls now.
While we can already see Trump/Vance and Project 2025 aiming for an authoritarian regime, they’re being treated as just another political party and as if this is just another election.
This is not just another election … Trump is a disaster … Vance is worse.
We seem to be thinking “it couldn’t happen again” while Trump is actively making plans to disrupt the election if it doesn’t go his way and plotting revenge on his enemies. He may be sinking into dementia … but JD Vance isn’t. While Trump is blustering around on the golf course, JD Vance will be powering forward toward total control.
My Nightmare: Hitler (Trump/Vance) commanding the war powers of the United States.
Like many of us, I think back to the rise of Hitler, and, not being a historian, I asked Perplexity to give me a timeline of his rise. (See below)
We all know the horrors of the story … the march toward world domination … the Thousand-year Reich … the attempted genocide of Jews and “non-Aryan” people, the world wide catastrophic loss of life (70 - 85 MILLION) and ruined cities and cultural treasures through five years of World War II.
On the Hitler timeline, it looks to me like Trump is aiming for 1933. He doesn’t have complete power but he wants it. If he should be elected, the good news is that he’s old and somewhat toothless. He doesn’t have 15 years to become Hitler.
The bad news is JD Vance, who is young, power hungry, and willing to toss democracy and truth to the wind, will be ready to carry on.
Our ONLY solution: VOTE and help others VOTE.
This is bigger than any one issue.
The United States is protected by two oceans and friendly neighbors. Other than the Civil War, we have never experienced war in our own cities and states. Trump and Vance however, would benefit by internal unrest. Remember: In 1933, Hitler used the Reichstag fire to suspend civil liberties. After that, it was a direct road to Der Führer.
In Trump’s first 100 days in office, when he was just getting started, he signed 30 executive orders. Now that he knows how to work the system and he has the Project 2025 as his playbook, he “will be dictator on Day 1.” (His people say he was just kidding … but what sane politician jokes about being a dictator?)
It’s ridiculous, but this is what happened at what they call a “town hall”:
Here’s what you can do:
Early Years of Hitler’s Rise
1919: Hitler joins the German Workers' Party, which later becomes the Nazi Party
1921: Hitler becomes leader of the Nazi Party
1920s
1923: Beer Hall Putsch - Hitler's failed coup attempt in Munich
1924: Hitler spends a year in prison, where he writes "Mein Kampf"
1928: Nazi Party receives only 2.6% of votes in Reichstag elections
Early 1930s
1930: Nazi Party wins 18% of votes in Reichstag elections
1932 (July): Nazi Party becomes largest in Reichstag with 37% of votes
1932 (November): Nazi vote share falls to 33%, but remains largest party
Economic note (from another Perplexity question): The worldwide economic crisis hit Germany particularly hard, with unemployment rising from 1.4 million in 1929 to 6.1 million by 1933. At the peak of unemployment, about one-third of Germans were without work. As conditions worsened, extremist parties like the Nazis were able to exploit anger and discontent to advance their political vision.
The economic crisis led to the use of emergency powers, such as Article 48, which allowed laws to be passed by decree, bypassing the Reichstag. This weakening of democratic processes made Germany more vulnerable to Hitler's eventual dictatorial takeover.
Hitler Becomes Chancellor
January 30, 1933: President Hindenburg appoints Hitler as Chancellor of Germany … i.e. head of the German Government.
Consolidation of Power
February 1933: Reichstag fire occurs; Hitler uses it to suspend civil liberties
March 1933: Enabling Act passed, giving Hitler dictatorial powers
August 2, 1934: President Hindenburg dies; Hitler becomes Führer, merging the offices of Chancellor and President
This timeline shows Hitler's progression from a fringe political figure to the absolute ruler of Germany over a period of about 15 years, with the most crucial events occurring between 1930 and 1934.
Yes, vote to uphold our democracy. That's #1. However, you mentioned, 'the belief that people are good and that US citizens believe in the fundamentals of democracy' (as we interpret it).
My experience tells me that those two characteristics can & do exist independent of one another.
