Yes, vote to uphold our democracy. That's #1. However, you mentioned, 'the belief that people are good and that US citizens believe in the fundamentals of democracy' (as we interpret it).
My experience tells me that those two characteristics can & do exist independent of one another.

I am disappointed that you are caught up in the Trump Rhetoric. Which by the way isn't true at all! You have been brainwashed. This whole Nazi agenda is exactly what the Biden/Harris admin is promising to us. Are you aware that the current admin just put into law a directive to use the military to shoot any American if riots break out from the election results? Do your research---> The DoD under Kamala Harris just passed Directive 5240.01 which authorizes the government to use lethal force against civilians. I pray for our country.
How reassuring it is that this Public Document is fully accessible to us as citizens. I also find confidence in these grounded principles direct from the law:
"Use of such techniques to collect information about U.S. persons must:
(1) Be limited to the least intrusive means feasible.
(2) Protect fully the legal rights of all U.S. persons, including civil liberties, and privacy
Sharon, thank you for speaking up. I appreciate your courage and passion and believe that we share a value of not wanting our military engaging with civilian actions, especially with lethal force. We probably share a lot more values that get confused by the loose standard of “facts” being presented by so many different media entities. I found the Directive you mention, but do not see the conclusion you cite. I’m not a lawyer so I’d be happy to have someone who understands the document enlighten me. I’ve attached it below. I would point out, however, that the DoD is not under the Vice-President.
If you would like to have a values-based conversation, I would love to explore our differences … assuming that you believe that Joe Biden won the 2020 election fairly and that January 6th was an insurrection that violated our democratic principles. If we don’t have those things in common, conversation probably will not be useful.

I have never liked the man and like him even less after reading this
Oh man. Awful to read but good you are posting, Joyce. Thanks for your work.
Thanks, Jeanine. I’m learning a lot … and, as they say, ignorance is bliss. ;-)
I agree with what you wrote here. My biggest fear is that Trump and Vance will win. They both come across dictators.
Thank you, Hermann. This is a nerve-wracking time.
