Mexico is and has always been a country of artists. As a fan of mural art, I look forward to your discoveries.

I like Bob Martin's question and also yours, "What is the current balance of commercialism (big, logo murals, festivals) versus independent artists and local murals? What makes the difference in how individual communities support murals and mural artists?" I would also ask, "How do you imagine future generations will interpret these murals?"

Thanks, Anita ... while I like the idea of thinking about future generations in reference to the murals, I wonder how we would get at this insight in view of the fact that street murals by their nature are temporary?

My intention is to hear what vision the artists have for their community's future. I believe the question addresses a universal theme, beyond culture and language.

I am curious about how the different artists choose their subjects and the locations for them.

Thanks, Bob, I'm going to add that to the list ... I'm interested in that also.

Wherever you end up going, I would love to hear a little space carved out for food and drink. What sort of stuff are you eating, especially? That could also be good for folks considering a visit one day.

Thanks, Andrew ... that's a great reminder. I tend to forget those things.

I, for one, love learning about the food of cultures I'm not as familiar with. I think everyone reading has a tummy!

You are most probably right ... and I tend to stay too much in my head ... maybe I'll bring my body along on the trip.

How wonderful that your adventure is taking shape (Many starred locations on your map!) and that you have a friend who will let you stay in her home. Based on what you have shared about yourself over time, I see your trip morphing along the way, no matter what the original plans were....and that's just how it should be.

So looking forward to what you discover.

Thanks, Heather ... I think you're right and I think I'm gradually letting go of the idea that this should be somehow more concrete. ;-)

How about a compromise? That would appeal to your balanced nature. Pick the top 3 places with a loose itinerary, and see what happens - always subject to change as what is calling moves you. Then you can do some of each, and you will know what the strongest call is once you get there. As for vagabonding and seeing what finds you, i like to recall the quote from JRR Tolkien: 'Not all who wander are lost.' Big grin. Maybe the why will be discovered on the way and it will be a bigger why or a different why calling out to you. Your heart and what inspires you will lead you. BTW I love your younger you theme song, haha. What would your older, wiser one be? OK I cannot resist! because all this reminds me of an old Moody Blues song that brings us back to those more youthful days...

So excited for you and for this journey. I think it will be full of wonder and you will share your wonder with the world. Will think on any questions to add to your very good ones but i think the pull of the murals by 'regular' people, non commercial and telling a story about community that speaks to your heart and soul, are the genesis, the springboard - and the cause is heart driven so it's all good, whatever transpires.

Love the idea of the compromise and all of your support ... it means a lot.

you have adventure in your soul. :) It may look different now, but planned or unplanned, there is always room for the unexpected, and miracles, and by beginning you will learn the Plan for you.

Just do it! I’d buy that book, which would include the lessons you learned by completely letting go. And btw, so would many other people. :)

I like the idea ... living up to the title could be a challenge. I'll put it in the idea parking lot ... let's see what happens when I actually do this adventure. ;-)

Oh, Tom, I am chortling. While that might be a blockbuster, I don't know if I could carry that off ... but it sure is fun to think about it. Thanks!
