We are in hazardous territory, but we are not alone ...
Heroes surround us ... they inspire, guide, and strengthen us. Let’s celebrate them.
Graphics have made this too long for email … click here to see all the heroes.
The case of Abrego Garcia whose arrest was deemed an error as well as lacking due process has held us in suspense as we’ve watched the fate of democracy hang in the balance and contemplated living with a government willing to send citizens to a foreign concentration camp. Vanity Fair offers a summary of the case and information about the heroic actions of two judges.
Do we have democracy if “due process” is an option?
Senator Van Hollen traveled alone to El Salvador to confirm the well-being of Abrego Garcia and Judge Boasberg has incurred the wrath of trump for standing up for due process.
The trump regime is making a play for a “strong executive” … an autocracy or dictatorship … is that what we the people want?
The love affair with AOC and Bernie … what a team … doing the unexpected … criss-crossing Red and Blue … speaking to real issues and gathering crowds in huge numbers … not asking for votes or donations … just speaking to and standing up for the concerns of average Americans. Watch them in Folsom.
Why do you think they are striking such a chord with so many people?
Facilitating our own inner heroes … Substack and Bluesky give us a place to speak up and be heard. Big voices and small, local and global, poetic and practical, all weave together into a bounteous offering of views and news.
What changes do you think these connection places will make during these challenging days?
Heather Cox Richardson has helped us cope through the long years of Trump and, while Howard Zinn is no longer writing our history, both of them are helping us remember who we are and how we got here. Watch Zinn’s “A people’s history of the United States.” (1.5 hour documentary)
Could better understanding of the history of our country help pull us together as a people?
In the process of writing this post, I discovered The Rockefeller Foundation’s “Democracy Heroes,” who don’t often make the news. Thank you to everyone standing up and speaking out for our country. There is a two minute video on the home page which is well worth watching.
“These nonpartisan civic leaders are making a difference in their communities every day - each one breaking barriers and building solutions to ensure all marginalized voters have a seat in our democracy. Through honoring these heroes, our mission is to inspire participation - to illustrate that change happens every day in our communities when we show up.” — The Rockefeller Foundation
Tuning toward the Heroes, as a flower turns to the sun for growth. A lovely Passover/Easter theme. Thanks. 🌿
It takes great courage to be an optimist. These people are courageous. And yes, we need to celebrate them!
