I didn't see this until today - post election. To go from McCarthyism, which destroyed so many people economically over lies and propaganda - to the 60s where millions fought for human rights, civil rights, women's rights, end of the Vietnam War, student rights, and more...to see that picture of young Afghan women in the 70s -and now - it feels like looking into hell. Reading those articles about women being banned to sing by the Taliban (not to mention the brutal and unsanitary genital mutilation of girls that's been going on for centuries). This is what feels the worst - what makes the vomit bile rise in my throat. I'm afraid for all women, globally. We never ended colonization. Now its ugliest forms are ramping up ‘warp-speed’ again.
Your post is the truth. This is a time of grief. Thank you for NOT looking away. We're going to need to marshall all of our collective knowledge, wisdom, and skills like never before. But think of the sufragettes and what they endured here in the USA. We have to draw on the strength that countered all this colonization and dominance before us. We'll need it.
It always gives me the creeps when I hear orange man say he loves women, in my head I can him finishing the statement with "when they know their place"
Wow! This is chilling. And so true! Thank you for writing this and doing the research. We can't go back. I remember how hard we fought for reproductive rights in my younger years, and to have lost it for our daughters because of three Supreme Court justices who Trump appointed, when every one of them during their confirmation process said Roe was settled law and they would not overturn it! In a flash it was gone! And women have died. We have to turn this around by voting Kamala into office and Democrats into a majority in the House and Senate.
