As someone who has been running in the same place for almost 43 years, this speaks to me! I love the John Lennon Clip - Joyce, you are so fun and young at heart, I'm determined to meet you in person someday! You're one of the hippest people I have encountered, without trying to be 'hip."
I bet you remember this guy, Joyce! I remember hearing him on a jazz radio station when I was about 19 (with a fascination for LSD and losing control) . I was hooked on him ever since... the right combo of beat, spooky, and the most uniquely bizarre, playful, weird stuff I'd ever heard. So glad he is still found on YouTube! That deep rumbly voice, so rich... and all the weird sound and musical accompaniments - I wish I had seen him and got to see the visuals. There's a great video with him, Leonard Cohen, and Coltrane. He has a bunch of these Word Jazz vocal performances and so much more on YT. Ken Nordine. Your name, Word Jazz, is perfect - you're in good company, even if he is on the 'other side.'
We must be kindred spirits! I "discovered" Ken Nordine while research the term "word jazz" ... and immediately fell in love with that voice and what he does ... or did , since he's now dead. I started to use a different term and then decided it's too perfect ... and a way of honoring him. I like to think I would have been one his groupies back then ... but I was way too serious back then. It has taken me a long time to get young. ;-) Definitely, let's find a way to meet! I've got to go look for that video with him, Cohen and Coltrane. Maybe I'm destined to be a dead guy groupie.
woops... sorry. It was Sonny Rollins! Love him too... but there are many acts throughout. worth watching the whole thing. love the dance moves of Was Not Was - brings me back to Motown and before. I have to admit, I never saw this show in the two seasons it ran. I have been many years without a TV, so thank you YouTube... been trying to catch up on shows like these ever since. If you're short on time, Ken starts around 26:30.
Well, the older we get, the more of them are dead, and like John Lennon, so many of them died too young. Of course you would've been a Ken Nordine groupie - i'll find the link to the one that i used to listen to late at night... OMG it still sends chills!
That piece by Emily is outstanding, thanks!
Peter ... you guys must be soul mates!
Or doppelgängers at the very least!
BTW I love your list under "life is hard", Especially, "no one is watching so stop performing"!!!
A new adventure is general a good thing, and I hope it goes well.
Nice poem
I'm excited for your new adventure, and glad you have landed on a peaceful decision about the Mexico trip. Love the poem!!! 💜
Thanks, Sue ... it feels good to finally get to resolution on the Mexico adventure idea.
I bet! Glad it all worked out.

What a great way to start the day. Thank you! Maybe we should start a Ken Nordine fan club.
I' d join! I have been gathering his videos in my youtube library, which has a ridiculous amount of videos.
Isn't YouTube the best?!
WordJazz....I like it! A new adventure begins!
